Exotic Wood Information

Please reference the information below regarding some of the imported woods we use in our boards.

Wenge- Pronounced WHEN-gii or WHEN-ghay.  A dark colored tropical timber from Africa and native to Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Gabon and Guinea.  

Purple Heart- A gorgeous deep purple color that comes from 20 different species of trees that are native to the tropical rainforests of Central and South America.  The tree grow large, typically 160 feet tall and five feet in diameter.

African Padauk- Bright orange to reddish brown in color.  Native to central and tropical west Africa, from Nigeria east to Congo-Kinsasha and south to Angola.  Another form of Padauk is also found in parts of China.

Bloodwood- A hard, dense and tight grained wood with colors ranging from a gray-red to a deep rich red. Native to Central West Africa.  

Bubinga- Often referred to as African Rosewood, this gorgeous wood is native to the tropical parts of Africa.  This wood is often used in high end furniture and commonly in guitars.
